Description

Food Testing is a very niche service provided to the feed industry. Feed testing includes testing of pesticides, mycotoxins, drugs and pathogens in animal feed. It involves testing throughout the process from production to packaging. Livestock diseases may occur due to several factors such as parasite outbreak, unhygienic conditions, use of antibiotics, overcrowding of animals etc. Meat obtained from diseased animals is unfit for consumption thus driving the attention of feed producers towards producing quality products. Feed is usually contaminated by exposure to polluted environment during production and packaging as well as mishandling of the products. It might affect the animal’s health leading to lower milk production for cattle.

Market Dynamics

The global feed testing market is expected to grow to an estimate of US $1100 Million at a CAGR of 9.2% in 2022 from US $565 Million in 2017. The market is witnessing increased demand due to major outbreaks of livestock diseases. Stricter regulations by Government to contain the livestock diseases has further given a boost to the demand for feed testing. Regulatory bodies across the world have made feed testing mandatory. In addition, increasing population has increased the consumption of meat products that in turn leads to higher demand for animal feed and thus feed testing. Contamination being another issue that needs to be addressed for feed producers. Feed testing thus gained importance due to its ability to eradicate contamination from the livestock feed. However, lack of awareness as well as high quality equipment is causing hindrance to the feed testing market. Feeding the animals appropriately is extremely essentialas it directly affects the animal’s growth, immunity and thus its lifespan. Right amount and quality of feed would then reduce the overall levels of antibiotics in animals.
