Acetic Anhydride is a colorless liquid that is mainly used to manufacture cellulose acetate. It smells similar to acetic acid. It is an isolatable acid anhydride, also known as ethanoic anhydride. It is produced by the carbonylation of acetate. It has good lachrymatory properties. It is used as an important reagent in organic synthesis of a number of chemicals. It can also be used in manufacturing polymers, pesticides, artificial sweeteners, resins and coatings. According to a report published by the IMARC Group, the global acetic anhydride market has grown at a CAGR of 7.0% during 2009-2016. However, the trading associated with this chemical is highly monitored because it is associated with the production of heroin.
