Description
Syngas, is a mixture consisting primarily of hydrogen, carbon monoxide, and carbon dioxide. The syngas is basically produced by gasification. Its main application is the main application is electricity generation and has some heating value. It is usually used as an intermediary for deriving synthetic natural gas and to create ammonia or methanol. Syngas is also an intermediate in to synthesize petroleum to use as a lubricant or fuel. It has half the energy density of natural gas. It cannot be burnt directly but is used as a source of fuel. It is also used as an intermediate to produce other chemicals.
End-user/Technology
The general raw materials used for creation of syngas are coal, petroleum materials, or other related materials. From these materials matter is prepared which is inserted to the gasifier. In the gasifier there is a reaction in oxygen starved environment with steam at elevated pressure and temperature. The result is syngas. For many years coal gasification processes to create syngas were used for gas lighting, cooking and to some extent, heating. Syngas is used as an intermediate in the industrial synthesis of ammonia and fertilizer. Syngas is largely used in the production of heat or electricity. It Is used for the production of ammonia and methanol. End users are Ammonia, methanol, hydrogen, Fischer-Tropsch liquids (XTL), synthetic natural gas.
Market Dynamics
The market depends upon the consumption of meat, the pork and poultry industry, and developments in livestock industry. Thus the growing demand for meat is estimated to favor feed phosphate market growth over the next few years. Global feed phosphate market is projected to experience brisk growth due to rise in animal-based food products consumption across the world. Added to this, the demand for dairy products is increasing this is another factor that contributes to towards the market growth. The meat industry is industrializing on a large scale leading to a boost to the industry. There is increasing awareness about better quality dairy and meat products which is another factor that boosts the industry demand due to rising awareness towards benefits associated with such feed additives.
Market Segmentation
According to geography, the market can be segmented on the basis of consumption. This includes Asia-Pacific, North America, Europe, South America, and Middle-East and Africa.
On the basis of end user the main segement is the chemical industry. The other user is electricity industry.
Regional/Geographic Analysis
The regional analysis includes Asia-Pacific, North America, Europe, South America, and Middle-East and Africa. The current leader is the Asia-Pacific region in the world for syngas production. This is due to the high demand and availability of coal in that region. The highest majority of the operating plants are in China. A large number of plants are also found in India, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and Taiwan.
Opportunities and threats
The market is driven by factors such as flexibility in feedstock. Growing demand for electricity is another factor and opportunity for the growth of this market. The market also faces certain drawbacks which include the large amounts of initial capital investment and funding. This is a roadblock to the market.
