Acoustic sensors are surface devices acting as band pass filters for the RF (radio frequency) and immediate frequency sections of the transceivers (Combination of Radio transmitter and receiver) and are used in mobile phones and base stations. Surface Acoustic wave sensors are a class of Microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) which rely on the modulation of surface acoustic waves to sense a physical phenomenon. The sensor transduces an input electrical signal into a mechanical wave which can be influenced by physical phenomena. The device then transduces this wave back into an electrical signal.

Detection of sound, an acoustic wave has been applied in many fields like environment protection, industrial manufacture, healthcare, medical, scientific research and defense.

Market Dynamics

High resolution, inherent high sensitivity, high stability and ability to perform well in low frequencies are some of the factors driving the acoustic wave sensors market. The growth in telecommunication market, technological developments like macro technology and nanotechnology and low manufacturing are the key drivers for the market growth. Surface Acoustic Waves (SAW) sensors with other sensors are presently in use. The temperature viscosity, torque and pressure sensors are most extensively used but the prospects of strong growth of the other sensors like mass and humidity are there.
