Introduction

A breathalyzer is a device for estimating blood alcohol content (BAC) in samples of breath. Designed and developed by R.F. Borkenstein in 1954 breath analyzers are commonly used by law enforcement agencies to ensure that people do not drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs. A mouthpiece is connected to the breathalyzer which functions as a vessel that allows the suspect to blow into the device. They are also used in the healthcare industry to detect severe medical conditions.

In alcohol fuel cell sensor breathalyzers, the breath is directed into a fuel cell with dual platinum electrodes where alcohol is oxidized and generates electrical current. The various advantages of fuel cell breathalyzers like high accuracy, reliability make it often useful for police roadside testing, and at substance abuse centers, clinics, hospitals, and businesses. On the basis of application, the market is categorized into alcohol detection, drug abuse detection and detection of several diseases. The end users of the global breath analyzers market include law enforcement agencies, enterprises, and individuals.
